Yankees’ Aaron Judge Crushes No. 62, Breaking American League Record

In a game against the Texas Rangers, the massively built Yankee slugger made MLB history by smashing home run No. 62. It was a towering, 391-foot shot over the left field wall that set a new single-season American League record.

For weeks, fans of every stripe had been waiting, and watching, and cheering, for Judge to hit home runs 61 and 62. It took him an uncharacteristic 59 tries to finally surpass fellow Yankee Roger Maris’ 61 homers. That was a record that held for 61 years.

The long, 162-game MLB regular season ends today, and the playoffs begin Friday. But no matter what happens in the playoffs, Judge’s feat will remain the historic highlight of 2022.

Judge said of his new place in baseball history: “Everybody can finally sit down in their seats and watch a ballgame.”
