Directions: Write underneath each situation to identify
whether it represents an example of conduction,
convection, or radiation.
1. Your hand touches the burner on the stove.
2. Magma in the earth's mantle heats up and rises,
then cools and sinks which causes Earth's tectonic plates to move.
3. You feel the warmth of the sun on a warm summer day.
4. The warm water near the equator moves towards the cold water near the
earth's poles. This phenomenon is known as a global ocean current.
5. You accidentally touch the hot part of the iron.
6. The soup on the bottom of a pot heats up by touching the pan.
7. Hot soup moves to the top of the pot and cool soup sinks to the bottom.
8. Your tongue touches a very cold spoon.
9. The hot pavement heats up the air directly above it.
10. The warm air over land, moves towards the cooler air over the ocean which
causes a windy breeze.
