Read the excerpt from a speech about perseverance.
I raced down the field as fast as I could. This was my
chance! I could finally redeem myself in the eyes of my
teammates! I took an enormous breath and pumped my
arms and legs, striving to make it to the ball before my
opponent. And do you know what happened? I missed
and landed on my backside! But you don't actually think I
gave up that easily, do you? This was no time to let my
wounded pride get in the way. I quickly recovered. I sped
down the field, closed in on my opponent, and performed
a perfect slide tackle. Now in possession of the ball, my
team quickly advanced toward our opponents' goal and
scored the winning point.
