• Performance Task: Write a diamonte poem.
A diamonte poem shows change or compares opposite ideas. It is written in the shape of a
diamond. Follow the directions below to create your diamonte poem. Don't forget to give it a
title. Your diamonte poem is worth 10 points. Your teacher will grade your poem with the
rubric at the end of the unit.
Directions:
1. Choose two interesting and meaningful words that are opposites, such as war/peace,
love/hate, or summer/winter. These will be the first (line 1) and last (line 7) words of the
poem.

Choose two nouns or adjectives describing the word in line 1.
3.
Choose three verbs ending in "ing" or "ed" describing the word in line 1.
4. Choose four nouns-the first two describe the word in line 1, the second two describe the
word in line 7.
5. Choose three verbs ending in "ing" or "ed" describing the word in line 7.
6. Choose two nouns or adjectives describing the word in line 7.
7. Write the word that is the opposite of the word in line 1.
