A fortune cookie is a delicious sugary treat! It's usually eaten after the meal in an Asian restaurant and always paired with a positive message that gives the eater hope and happiness," explained Julie to her best friend, Sam, as they walked into Julie's favorite restaurant, The Cookie Box.
The Cookie Box was a family-owned restaurant with excellent food and even better fortune cookies than other restaurants in town. Julie had not been back since her birthday last August because she had a small argument with one of the servers. She was too embarrassed to return.
Sam and Julie took a seat and ordered their food. Once their food arrived, they immediately started to dig in. When they finished, Julie grabbed two fortune cookies. She handed one to Sam, then eagerly ripped hers open. It read, "Watch your back!"
"This has to be a prank," thought Julie. She looked around the busy restaurant, suspecting the culprit was in the room. Suddenly, in the corner of her eye, she saw something, or rather someone. It was Veronica, the same server from her birthday last August. The server that Julie was ashamed to admit, Julie was more than a little rude to her.
On the day of Julie's birthday, nothing seemed to be going her way. Three of her guests canceled on her, the new dress she had ordered had not arrived, and the only thing she thought couldn't go wrong went wrong. She was not able to keep her reservation at The Cookie Box. The waitress who attempted to resolve Julie's reservation issue appeared exhausted and was acting carelessly, so Julie reported her to the owner and left.
And now here she was again, staring loathingly toward her. Julie didn't think it was a coincidence that she got a warning fortune cookie the same day she saw that server.
"She did it," said Julie quietly.
"Huh, who did what?" Asked Sam.
"Oh! Nothing, sorry," replied Julie.
Julie had forgotten Sam was there and decided to apologize and tell him something suddenly came up, and it would be best if he left.
When Sam left, Julie decided to leave as well, she was halfway to her car when suddenly she heard someone calling out to her. It was Veronica. She was chasing after Julie. "You ruined my promotion!" yelled veronica with an angry tone. I felt horrible when I heard her say that. I didn't think that my bad day could ruin somebody's life.
I was so ashamed.
"I am so sorry," I muttered
Veronica scoffed and walked off. Julie didn't bother to stop her because there was no way Veronica would ever forgive her.
