In Unit 1 we studied ancient epic heroes such as Beowulf, Hektor, and Achilleas. These characters represent cultures that flourished thousands of years ago.
The characteristics of the ancient epic heroes studied in Unit 1 include the following:
the hero has special qualities and is called into an adventure,
the hero faces a significant battle, challenge, or obstacle, and
the hero is the recipient of supernatural aid (or the victim of supernatural hindrance).
Write a multi-paragraph response comparing the traits of a Unit 1 epic hero with those of a modern hero. In your comparison, address how the three characteristics above apply to both the Unit 1 epic hero selected and the modern hero. Cite evidence from the Unit 1 texts to support your statements.
