DIRECTIONS: Read this passage from a magazine article. Then, answer
(1) Yesterday, I was delighted to encounter on the road an armadillo that nearly made me swerve
off it. (2) Like knights of medieval times, armadillos have their own armor, a thick, tough shell to
protect them from their enemies. (3) Running over them can cause cars to go off the road and
can also damage tires. (4) The cute critters are not the best backyard visitors, either. (5) They
don't eat plants, but they do burrow extensively in search of tasty grubs and can damage not just
your garden but your home's foundation. (6) Moreover, while their predators are in decline, the
armadillo population is growing. (7) So, though I don't recommend doing away with any creature,
I do think the armadillo population needs some controls.
