FORMAL EXPERIMENT GRADE 11 DATE:22/00/2022 TIME: 2 HOURS SCHOOL: SECONDARY SCHOOL Title: Verification of Boyle's law. Boyle's law: The volume of a fixed amount of gas is inversely proportional to its pressure at constant temperature. Pressure gauge > 100 ml syringe TERM: 03 SUBJECT: PHYSICAL SCIENCES TOTAL: 25 MARKS CIRCUIT: MALEBOHO Floure 3 Setup of apporor for portment 1 Apparatus: 3cm silicon tubing 106 mil Method: 1. Set up the apparatus as shown in figure 3. Use the silicon tubing to attach the syringe to the pressure gauge. 2. Draw a suitable table to record your readings. 3. Press the plunger of the syringe down by 10ml. record the volume of the gas and the pressure reading on the pressure gauge. 4. Press the plunger of the syringe down 10ml further and record the reading. 5. Repeat step 3 and 4 as many times as you can, pressing down the 10ml further each time. 6. Use the reading to plot a graph of volume vs pressure. 7. Write a scientific report which must Include the following headings (see page 2). Write a scientific report, which must include the following headings: 1. Alm (1) 2. Name the Independent variable: (1) 3. Name the dependent variable: (1) 4. Name two control variables: (2) 5. Method (3) J Write in your report as given. 6. Results (5) Record and present your results in a suitable table. 7. Analysis and Interpretation (6) > Draw a graph showing the relationship of volume and pressure using the results recorded in the table, (5) > Describe the shape of the graph. (1) 8. Discussion and Conclusion (6) >Explain why the two controlled variable mentioned in (4) above are kept constant during the experiment. Use the kinetic theory of gases and explain why the decrease in volume Increase the pressure. > Study your graph and write down your conclusion. Describe the relationship mathematically.
