Enzymes work by binding to the reactant molecules at the active site which results in the formation of an enzyme-substrate complex.
This is referred to as a biological catalyst which speeds up the rate of chemical reaction in the body. They are proteinous in nature and can be easily denatured when exposed to high temperature and other unfavorable conditions.
They do that by lowering the activation energy of the reaction and bind to the reactant molecules which is referred to as the substrate and results in the formation of the enzyme-substrate complex.
