Public and private sector organizations typically translate their strategies into programs and then projects for execution. The simplest definition of a program is a collection of initiatives. A portfolio of projects is the term typically used to describe this collection of related tasks. SO Programs are described as a group of projects that are somewhat tied to a common goal. Thus, a program involves the coordinated administration of a collection of related initiatives that organizations use to realize benefits that are crucial to their overall strategy. Projects and business strategy can be more closely aligned through the use of programs. A program is open-ended in that, unlike projects, it does not have a set completion date. Simply put, projects concentrate on specific deliverables, whereas programs concentrate on strategic goals. Program managers supervise individual projects to make sure they adhere to a precise timetable created for the program. In addition, programme managers are in charge of managing all the complex dependencies between the projects in their portfolios as well as tracking and reporting on each project's progress. The production line in the manufacturing industry is an example of a typical organizational procedure that should not be mistaken with a project. Systems and procedures that are routine in nature and intended to help individuals achieve an organization's strategic goals are referred to as ordinary processes. A person may be appointed to a particular post with a specified job description and responsibilities for the same purpose. But with projects, this is not the case. People cannot be appointed permanently to a project because it is a transitory endeavor with a defined start and end date. Organizational procedures are implemented with the aid of projects. Simply said, processes are continuing, whereas projects are transient. And also processes have predefined work assignments (staff members or job descriptions) but with projects there are no predefined work assignments and are based on the specific nature of the project.
