The Distraction
"Is that Mom? Is she clapping?"
whispered a red-faced Celia to Melanie as
she began to wonder if their mother had
forgotten to look at the program book before
the performance.
"Didn't we remind her that it isn't proper
etiquette to applaud before a piece
finishes?" replied Melanie, distracted from
playing her cello.
"She is going to distract all the string
musicians at the front," sulked Celia as she
forgot a note on her viola.
As soon as Celia missed the note, the
first violin player gasped and stared at both
the sisters. Soon, the distracted woodwind
players started discussing the skipped note
in hushed voices.
The conductor, who was now fully aware
of the commotion, stopped moving his
baton and loudly shushed the side-tracked
musicians.
