Warm-Up
Imagine that you live in an early
seventeenth-century village in France. You're a
peasant, which means you work the land on a
daily basis, just as your grandparents and their
parents did. You don't have a say in your country's
laws or the right to vote for your leaders. In fact,
you have few, if any, rights.
Open the Notebook tool (BB). Then write 100 to
150 words on how you would feel about those
conditions. What would you like to change about
your situation or about the laws in your country?
