Gabriella's school is selling tickets to a choral performance. On the first day of ticket sales the
school sold 14 senior citizen tickets and 14 child tickets for a total of $252. The school took in
$154 on the second day by selling 9 senior citizen tickets and 7 child tiekets. Find the price of a
senior citizen ticket and the price of a child ticket.

Answer :

The price of a :

Senior citizen ticket = $4

Child ticket = $16.8

On the first day school sold,

Senior citizen ticket = 14

Child ticket = 14

Total Price = $252

On the second day school sold,

Senior citizen ticket = 9

Child ticket = 7

Total Price = $154

Let the price of ticket for senior citizen = ‘s’

And, for child = ‘c’

By first day, we get

14s + 14c = 252   ... eq.( 1 )

By second day, we get

9s + 7c = 154   ... eq.( 2 )

Multiply eq.( 2 ) by 2, we get

18s + 14c = 308   ... eq.( 3 )

Now, we will subtract eq.( 1 ) by eq.( 3 ),

      18s + 14c = 308

    - 14s - 14c = -252

     ______________

        4s = 56  ( Divide both side by 4 )

          s = 14

So, the ticket price of one senior citizen is $4.

To determine the ticket price of one senior citizen, we will solve the eq. 2 by putting s = 4

So,   9s + 7c = 154

 (9 × 4) + 7c = 154

       36 + 7c = 154

               7c = 154 - 36 = 118   ( By dividing both side by 7 )

                c = 16.8

Hence, the ticket price of one child is $16.8 .
