The reason why the ideas of John Locke and Paine were powerful
This is due to the fact that it helped to open the eyes of the colonists to the fact that they had been suppressed for too long. It gave them the morale to fight to get the government they wanted where they would be responsible for administering to themselves and without having to be treated like people that did not have rights like they were.
The ideas were of the fact that trhe people that were to be governed would be the ones that would have to give their consent to those they want in power. Now given that they no longer wanted the British they knew it was time to fight for what they wanted.
