Role of the Writer: You are role playing a Native American teenager.
Audience:You are writing to yourself, as in a diary or journal.
Format: A diary entry
Topic: The Native American Experience of seeing a European explorer or settler for the first time.
Directions: Create a diary entry as if you were a Native American, in the colonial period, who just saw Europeans in the New World for the first time.

You should include the following to meet the criteria of the rubric:

1. What is the historical context (time, place, and setting)?

What were you doing? When did this happen?

2. Who did you see? What were they doing?

3. How did you feel? Why did you feel that way?
