What theme do these two passages share?
Passage 1:
How could Misha's parents do this to her? This tiny village was all
she'd ever known and now they were going to move to Edmonton-a
big city with people everywhere. Her dad tried to explain; something
about disappearing lumber jobs and better schools. All Misha could
think about was the wide-open tundra that she would miss. And what
about Klondike? She had been training him for months for the
upcoming dogsled races.
Passage 2:
Liam leaned over the railing of the boat and watched the mainland
grow smaller and smaller until it disappeared. He felt torn about the
journey. On the one hand, he was sad to leave behind his home and his
friends. On the other hand, there were so many problems in Ireland
now since the potato crop had gone bad. Maybe life in America really
would be better, but there was no way to be sure. He let go of the
railing and cuddled up next to his parents and brother.
