ers of Figures on the Coordinate
Plane
Recall that the perimeter of a polygon is the sum of the lengths of the polygon's sides. You can
use the Distance Formula to find perimeters of polygons in a coordinate plane.
Follow these steps to find the perimeter of a pentagon with vertices A(-1, 4), B(4, 4), C(3,-2),
D(-1,-4), and E(-4, 1). Round to the nearest tenth.
A Plot the points. Then use a straightedge to draw the pentagon that is
determined by the points.
Find the sum of the side lengths.

B Are there any sides for which you do not need to use the Distance
Formula? Explain, and give their length(s).
Use the Distance Formula to find the remaining side lengths.
