important invention in modern history. Before its
invention, bookmaking required copying all words and
illustrations by hand. This intensive labor made books
very expensive, out of reach for most people. Gutenberg's
invention changed all that. Soon, printers were in
business across Europe, dramatically increasing the
number of books produced each year, and also lowering
their price, making them more affordable. Within a few
decades, literacy dramatically increased. The Bible
became the most-produced book, allowing people to read
and interpret the Bible for themselves. The ideas of the
Reformation began to spread, along with other new ideas.
This would lead to great advancements in science, math,
and technology as well.
