The excerpt supports what point of view about the cause of the Civil War?
The people of the State of South Carolina, in Convention
assembled, on the 26th day of April, A.D., 1852, declared
that the frequent violations of the Constitution of the
United States, by the Federal Government, and its
encroachments upon the reserved rights of the States, fully
justified this State in then withdrawing from the Federal
Union; but in deference to the opinions and wishes of the
other slaveholding States, she forbore at that time to
exercise this right. Since that time, these encroachments
have continued to increase, and further forbearance
ceases to be a virtue.

The excerpt supports what point of view about the cause of the Civil War. South Carolina joined the Confederacy on April 3rd, 1861, they believed the union was going against their constitutional rights, and they didn’t want to be controlled by the government.

The war began because there was no compromise that could resolve the differences between free and slave states over the power of the central government to prohibit slavery in non-state territories.

The popular explanation is that the Civil War was fought over the moral issues of slavery. In fact, the economics of slavery and the political control of the system was central to the conflict.
