If you had to choose, which part of the federal bureaucracy would you like to work for? why? write about the rules of recruitment of federal bureaucrats. why and how did the u.s. government switch from the patronage (spoils) system to the merit system? what do you think is the difference between a government bureaucrat and a politician?

Answer :

I would like to work at the Department of the Treasury to manage the nation’s economy. The practice of patronage was done away with in order to minimize abuse in the federal hiring process. It started with the Pendleton Civil Service Reform Act of 1883. Title 5 of the U.S Code requires federal jobs to be openly competed for through the federal Office of Personnel Management. Politicians differ from bureaucrats in that they are elected while bureaucrats are permanent employees of the federal government
